The competetive interpretive speech category is popular and exciting for the audience. In this two day camp you will learn what it means to create an interp script from a book, play, poem, or piece of literature. Many students find themselves mid or late season realizing the script has been the problem all along - and students wonder where they can go to learn the creative editing process that remains compliant with various leaugue rules.
Look no further. At this camp we will walk you through the process. We make serious efforts to clearly unpack the rules for both STOA and NCFCA interps, but we want you to know that it is a priority that you come to camp with questions already answered from the speech committee if you have had them come up.
Our goal is to teach you how to comply with the rules and utilize the freedom within those rules to be creative and create a script that will engage and entertain audiences. After that, the fun begins when we engage in how to block scenes, develop strong characters, understand the author's intent, learn the meaning behind the words, and more.
You will not leave with a finished or polished product, but you will leave with the tools to finish and polish yourself, and have insight into how to create a unique piece for interpretation.
This camp is best suited to 16 years and up. Younger students may attend with a participating parent.
